Create change that lasts.
You may be capable, thoughtful, and successful in many parts of your life and still find yourself caught in patterns that are difficult to change on your own.

When something isn't working
Sometimes the problem is obvious. You're anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, grieving, struggling in a relationship, or facing a change you didn't choose.

Other times, life looks reasonably good from the outside, but something still feels off.

You may understand a problem intellectually without being able to change it.
Â
You may find yourself repeating the same reactions in relationships, putting enormous pressure on yourself, avoiding something important, or wondering why accomplishments that once motivated you no longer feel satisfying.
Â
Therapy can help you make sense of those patterns—and begin changing them rather than simply managing them.
What we might work on
Anxiety, chronic stress, and burnout
Understanding what keeps your system on alert and developing more effective ways of responding to pressure, uncertainty, and overwhelming feelings.
Self-criticism and perfectionism
Examining the standards and assumptions driving you and developing a more balanced way of evaluating yourself.
Emotional disconnection
Becoming better able to recognize, understand, and express what you feel rather than relying primarily on analysis or problem-solving.
Relationships and recurring patterns
Recognizing the ways you protect yourself, disconnect, overfunction, withdraw, or become reactive—and building healthier ways of relating.
Life and career transitions
Making thoughtful choices when an old direction, identity, relationship, or way of living no longer fits.
Depression or the sense of being stuck
Understanding the dimensions of your experience so we can work together to identify manageable steps forward.

Therapy that goes beyond insight
Understanding yourself matters. But understanding alone does not always change the patterns that brought you to therapy.

My approach is both reflective and active.
Â
Together, we look closely at what happens—what you think, what you feel, what you do, and what tends to happen next. We explore how those patterns developed, what purpose they may once have served, and whether they are still helping you now.

Then we work on doing something different.
Â
The goal is not to turn you into someone else. It is to help you become less governed by automatic reactions and better able to respond to your life, relationships, and choices with clarity, authenticity, and intention.
For people who spend a lot of time thinking
A substantial part of my professional life has been spent working with people in technology and other demanding, highly analytical environments.

That experience has taught me something important: being exceptionally good at analyzing complex problems does not necessarily make emotional or relational problems easier to solve.
Â
In fact, sometimes the ability to analyze becomes part of the difficulty.

You may be able to explain precisely why something is happening while still feeling unable to change it. Therapy creates a different kind of space—one in which insight, emotion, relationships, and behavior can all become part of the work.
Â
You do not need to work in technology to work with me. But if you do, you won't need to spend much time explaining the culture of demanding work, complex organizations, constant change, or the tendency to approach human problems as though they should have an elegant technical solution.
What change can look like
Good therapy does not mean that difficult feelings or problems disappear.
It can mean that you understand yourself more clearly. That you recover more quickly when something knocks you off balance. That you recognize an old pattern before it takes over. That you communicate more directly. That you become less controlled by fear, avoidance, perfectionism, or self-criticism.
And it can mean having more room in your life for connection, curiosity, satisfaction, and choice.

That is the kind of change we will work toward together.

Is this the right fit?
Therapy tends to be most useful when you are willing to be curious about yourself, consider perspectives that may challenge familiar assumptions, and experiment with doing things differently.
You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what is wrong or what you want to change.

We can figure that out together.

I offer individual psychotherapy for adults in person at my Bellevue office and through secure telehealth for clients located in Washington state.
We can use the consultation to talk briefly about what brings you to therapy, what you are hoping will change, and whether working together seems like a good fit.
